چکیده

In this Continuing Professional Development module, we review the practical pharmacology of tranexamic acid and its clinical use in trauma, obstetrics, major orthopedic surgery. Tranexamic is a synthetic drug that inhibits fibrinolysis. Multiple trials various settings have shown it can reduce blood loss, transfusion rates, bleeding-associated mortality. trauma obstetrical bleeding, early administration (< three hours) may greater benefits. Overall, appears safe with no significant increase thromboembolic or seizure events. Nevertheless, current evidence has limitations related to wide heterogeneity dose, route, timing administration, as well generalizability large-scale trial findings higher income nations. an efficacious pharmacological-based conservation technique management clinically hemorrhage. All anesthesiologists should good understanding pharmacotherapeutic properties perioperative role therapy both inside outside operating room. The likely continue rise endorsement by guidelines healthcare organizations. Further quantitative research needed evaluate optimal dosing efficacy these scenarios.

[Tranexamic acid in orthopedic surgery].

Perioperative bleeding may require blood transfusions, which are sometimes not without complications and risks, with the subsequent increase in health care costs. Among other prevention methods, treatment with tranexamic acid (ATX) has shown to be effective in reducing surgical blood loss, especially in the immediate postoperative period. In this regard, studies evaluating ATX in orthopedic sur...

Use of tranexamic acid in craniosynostosis surgery.

BACKGROUND Intraoperative tranexamic acid (TXA) administration has been used to abate blood loss in a variety of surgical procedures. Several recent studies have supported its efficacy in reducing transfusion requirements in pediatric cranial vault reconstruction (CVR). OBJECTIVE To conduct a retrospective chart review to determine whether a significant reduction in packed red blood cell (PRB...

Tranexamic Acid and Major Spine Surgery: Trends and Controversies

The beneficial role and efficacy of Tranexamic Acid in reducing perioperative blood loss and blood transfusion requirements in spine surgery is being established. Tranexamic Acid is an antifibrinolytic agent traditionally used to lessen perioperative blood loss. Tranexamic Acid can be administered orally, intramuscularly, intravenously or topically. Tranexamic Acid studies in spine surgery have...

Tranexamic Acid use in Trauma: Effective but not Without Consequences

Tranexamic Acid (TXA), a synthetic derivative of the amino acid lysine, was originally approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 1986 to reduce bleeding in hemophiliacs undergoing tooth extraction. It is a potent antifibrinolytic drug that both competitively inhibits the conversion of plasminogen to plasmin by saturating plasminogen’s lysine binding site [1] and by directly inhibitin...

Tranexamic acid in trauma: how should we use it?

Tranexamic acid (TXA) reduces blood loss by inhibiting the enzymatic breakdown of fibrin. It is often used in surgery to decrease bleeding and the need for blood transfusion. In 2011, results from a multi-center, randomized, and placebo-controlled trial (CRASH-2 trial) showed that TXA (1 g loading dose over 10 min followed by an infusion of 1 g over 8 h) safely reduces mortality in bleeding tra...
